The Lions Club Luxembourg and the Ampelos ASBL association: a united partnership
The Lions Club Luxembourg supports Ampelos ASBL, an association created in 2021 that works in essential areas such as education, health, agriculture, and access to drinking water. All projects are developed in close collaboration with local partners, in order to meet the real needs of communities and provide them with the means to achieve true autonomy. Composed entirely of volunteers, the association ensures that donations are entirely devoted to actions carried out on the ground, with fixed costs being covered by its members' contributions. Together, we share a united vision: to build sustainable projects that concretely change the lives of communities in Africa.
In this context, our friend and LCLI member, Aurelia Mari, who coordinates social initiatives for our Club with Ampelos, recently traveled to Malawi, at her own expense, to closely monitor the latest achievements. Thanks to our contribution, 120 school desks were delivered to the students of Giada Junior Primary School, in Mkwanda Village, in the Mangochi district. This first project was funded directly by our Club as well as by several of our members through their donations.
A second project – the purchase of a school bus – then saw the light of day, this time with the support of the Fondation de Luxembourg (www.fdlux.lu), confirming the relevance of the initiative and the confidence placed in Ampelos.Today, a new step is underway to support the same community: a special fundraising drive to install a photovoltaic system. This installation will reduce dependence on expensive diesel, while ensuring the proper functioning of water pumps and facilitating the irrigation of cultivated fields. It will thus contribute to strengthening the food supply for schoolchildren. This project already benefits from the support of our Governor, Mr. Hoffman, as well as the Lions Foundation, and will soon be presented to the expanded Board of Directors of Lions District 113.
We warmly thank Aurelia for her dedication, time, and enthusiasm, which inspire and honor our collective commitment. Below are some photos and videos from her trip, a concrete testament to the impact of these solidarity actions.
